Proverbial Hawks

from Cadences by Action and Action

/

about

this song is all about doing a job where every day you somehow try to overcome the mistakes made in good faith by the people who have done the job before you. It’s also slightly about politics, where I feel this is particularly true. It’s almost a dualist presentation of the same thing - you either see conspiracy everywhere in politics or you admit that maybe it’s just human frailty that leads to bad decisions that are then really difficult to undo

lyrics

Like proverbial hawks on the war fortune
They move and they talk
Whispers. Bargaining

Against my better judgement
Isn’t that how it always begins?
And please take note
I somehow managed not to swear in front of your kids
There’s no conspiracy
It’s just men trying to make the best of a bad job
And so many predecessors

Land grab, explore the flag
And you’ll be glad if you need two seats
And when we say ‘retro’ we mean a fake version of our past
And a confused identity
Your penmanship takes on a stabbing motion

There’s no conspiracy
It’s just men trying to make the best of a bad job
And so many predecessors
